Jim Daniels served from May of 1969 through May of 1970 with Charlie Company, 2nd Platoon. He was a "Shake & Bake" Sgt and within hours of arriving to the field on June 5, he found himself in combat while the company went to the aid of Delta Company, who were enguaging the NVA. It was a nasty battle that resulted in 12 KIA.
In less than a week he was made platoon sgt, and then again, weeks later, was made platoon leader when there was a shortage of officers.
In November he left the field and served out his tour as an English teacher to Vietnamese troops at the Armed Forces Language School in Vung Tau.
