The 12th Infantry Regiment was the only regiment to sent five battalions into Vietnam. The 12th Infantry Monument stands proudly at the National Infantry Museum, Columbus, Georgia and honors all who served in the 12th Regiment, past, present and future. Below is a brief data summary of the 12th Regimental battalions that went to Vietnam.
1st Battalion (Infantry)
Arrived 9 August 1966 and departed Vietnam, 7 December 1970. It's previous Station was at Fort Lewis. Authorized Strength: 1966, 769; 1968, 971; 1970, 920.
1st Battalion, 12th Infantry was part of the 4th Infantry Division.
2nd Battalion (Infantry)
Arrived 9 October 1966 and departed Vietnam, 16 April 1971. It's previous Station was at Fort Lewis. Authorized Strength:1968, 971; 1970, 920.
2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry was part of the 25th Infantry Division.
Arrived 7 April 1968 and departed Vietnam, 12 October 1970. It's previous Station was at Fort Lewis. Authorized Strength: 920.
The 5th Battalion, 12th Infantry was activated 1 November 1967 and assigned to the 199th Infantry Brigade (Light) in 1969 to give the brigade a fourth maneuver battalion in Vietnam.
